Compare Electric Vehicle Fuel Costs

Petrol and electricity are nearly the same price in energy terms.

One litre of petrol contains the energy equivalent to 8.9 kWh of electricity.

1L petrol @$2.90/8.9 = 33c/kWh

Electricity from the grid = 32.5c/kWh.

The difference is how an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) use that energy.

ICE is only 17% efficient at converting the equivalent energy into motion, PHEV 54% and BEV 90%. Hence the different distances travelled on the same amount of energy (in this example 60 kWh).

Where is the rest of this story? Perhaps it needs to become a Post?
